Sagestar entered the meadow quietly, in a crouched position, his eye on something in the middle of the meadow. It was a medium sized hare, and he hadn't caught a hare for weeks. His pelt brushed softly against the grass as he got closer, his ears laying back, eyes on what the hare was eating: a blade of grass. It's back was turned to him, and when he got just a few feet away, he sprang and landed directly on the creatures back, smirking slightly at the catch. His eyes moved towards a tree that he usually buried his prey under, back when he was an apprentice. He padded over to it and dug into the soft dirt, then sat the rabbit inside of it, putting the dirt back over the hole and moving back to sit down in the middle of the meadow. He hadn't caught prey for a few days, he had been busy being a leader. But it was so fun catching prey, he loved the rush. He laid down on his stomach, looking out to the horizon.

Vinetangle slinks through the grass. She scans the area with her dark green eyes. She holds her long tail still as to not alert any prey in the area. She pads as quietly as she can along the outskirts. She spots a vole poking its nose out. She draws her tongue across her orange muzzle. The long grass brushes against her black and orange pelt as she stalks it. When she thinks she is close enough she bunches her body together. She lets go in a pounce and lands hard on the vole. She kills it with a bite to the neck. She carries in her jaws to a small bush and buries it.
She stops abruptly when she sees Sagestar, causing her to wince at her permanently injured leg. She doesn't let out a noise though. Vinetangle usually doesn't hunt alone, but she wasn't in a particularly good mood when she woke up today. She flicks her tail side by side, considering. Finally, she strides over to her leader. She scans her eyes over his black pelt and stares into his amazingly green eyes.
"Greetings, Sagestar, nice day eh?" She meows sweetly almost purring at the stupid and rather generic question. She also wants to hit herself for it. She falls back and sits on the soft dirt.

Sagestar was just about to lay his head onto his paws when he realized that another cat from his clan was coming up beside him. He sat up, then looked to the direction of the cat, licking his paw softly. He wondered softly to himself what the cat was doing. Mousebrain, he thought. Vinetangle was probably hunting, just as he was. He looked up at the sky, the sun beating down slightly as Sagestar thought about the question. "Yeah." He mewed back at her. "It's a beautiful day. . Rather hot, though." Sagestar held back a yawn. It was still slightly early, and he could tell that this cat didn't wake up very well. He settled back into the tall grass, still watching the other cat. "How're you today, Vinetangle?" He questioned towards the other cat in the meadow.

Vinetangle swishes her tail. She becomes suddenly conscious of the hot sunlight on her dark back. She sees that Sagestar had seemed to be about to yawn but held it back. Vinetangle feels the urge soon after. She fights it away as well. She flicks her tongue over her paw thoughtfully. She looks around for a moment before focusing again. She hears his question flow through her ears, and she considers it.
"Well," She meows with a slight growl,"another warrior kept kicking me. When I finally got sleep I woke up a little while before dawn. I just couldn't get back to sleep so I was just laying there with my eyes open!"
She lets out an exasperated sigh after telling her little tale. She had the Apprentice's Den all to herself when she was younger. It still annoys her to have other cats sleeping around her. She has gotten better over time, but last night reminded her of her slowly dying aggravation.
"I'm a bit better now that I'm outside, even if some weariness remains," She put in.

Sagestar sat up again, not really wanting to lay down any longer. His ear twitched as he listened to the she-cat complain. What he had guessed had been true; she was in a awful mood. He licked his paw softly. ''Yeah, I've always loved hunting," Sagestar responded, looking back at the warrior with a slight glitter in his eyes. He remembered the hare he had caught just earlier, and smiled. It'd probably feed a few warriors and a whole litter of kits, and probably their mother as well. It would make him smile that he could provide for his clan that well. "I caught a hare earlier, in the meadow," he commented quietly, his tail twitching, looking straight now, back at the scorching sun.

The tortoiseshell she-cat watched Sagestar as he sat up like she has been. She paws an itch by her ear absently. She squints curiously at the shine in his eyes as he speaks. Vinetangle recalls the plump vole that she caught with a lick across her muzzle. She jumps out of her imagining at his news of catching a hare that her ears barely catch. "That's neat, they don't come around often do they?" She lets out a light growl of jealously and admiration. She lays her ears back for a second before springing them forward again. "I just caught a vole, it's pretty plump, but it isn't a rabbit." She's not angry exactly. As long as the clan gets fed it doesn't really matter.

Sagestar looked up at her as she spoke, then looked over to her quietly. He could hear the jealousy in her mew, and he was about to ask her if she had caught anything until he heard about the vole. He smiled slightly. "Hares don't come around often, yes," He commented, still rather happy that he had caught something good as the leader of the clan. That he could still provide for his clan just as well as he did when he was a warrior. He didn't have to do anything major, though, which fueled his laziness more. "But voles are rarely plump, and usually when it's this hot they're hiding in their dens." he added easily, smiling at Vinetangle and staying sat up now.

Vinetangle nods her large head. She smiles slightly at being right. She is calmer now. She silently plans to catch a rabbit someday, somehow. She hasn't caught one since she was an apprentice. She remembers being so happy for once. She wasn't a miserable apprentice. However, she was relieved to finally become a warrior. She smiles widely despite herself when Sagestar tells her about voles. She feels better. She stares at the ground for a moment not sure what to say. She comes up with a half-tailed,"I suppose." She's still smiling a little, showing that she's happier than the flat tone in her voice. She wraps her tail around her paws. She's used to the burning sun and isn't paying it much attention.

Sagestar knew that Vinetangle was envious of his catch, but he was careful not to mention it any longer. He didn't want the warriors of the clan to feel any more envy for him, if they did already. Sure, he was leader. But it's not like he asked for it. He sighed softly at the thought of everyone being so annoyed because he was leader. He hoped no one hated him for it. He didn't really deserve the position, anyways. He looked up at Vinetangle, who was in a sitting position. He moved to that position also, then looked at her, his head tilted slightly to the side. "Do you like the heat?" he questioned, trying to keep the conversation going, with not really much luck whatsoever.

Vinetangle hears his words and figures he's trying to make conversation. She soaks in the heat of the sun beating down on her. She considers this question, her tail flicking. The sun is bright and shining through an almost cloudless, blue sky. "It feels rather good," She meows plainly. She lifts her head up slightly as the warmth seers her skin. Her green eyes glaze over.
Her paws pound against the dirt as she pads steadily towards her destination. A kit hangs by its scruff in her mouth. Another small kit clings to her back. She finds her skin annoyed by its pricking claws. She thinks at this moment she will be glad without them. Her tail is extended behind her. It lashes. Her eyes widen as she sees twolegplace looming before her. Vinetangle moves toward a house she knew from talking to a kittypet perched on a fence a few days ago that it is a safe place for her kits. She places them down.
"Mommy are you leaving us?" One kit mews desperately. She feels a twinge in her heart but shakes it off. "This is for your own good, I can't be your mother and the forest is a dangerous place," She explains to her tiny, defenseless kits. She hops up on her hind legs and scratches the door. She opens her jaws and lets out a loud meow. She hears noise inside. With a flick of her tail she dashes back to her camp.
A short breeze flows by. She comes out of her vision and shudders. She hates that memory. The 'forest' isn't a safe place for them to grow up anyway. They were better off. she thinks concincingly. Vinetangle is right in its path. Her orange, black, and white pelt is ruffled. She twitches her nose in annoyance. She bends over and slicks down the bothered fur with her rough tongue. When satisfied she turns back around. She flinches as another blast of wind hits her. She sighs. She doesn't bother smoothing it down this time. Her tail lashes across the ground. She unsheathes her claws and feels the soft soil slink between them.
