Description :.
If you asked a cat to glance at Cindernight and then describe her in just a few words, they would probably look at her and then tell you that she is a small, beautiful, and talented she-cat who is more than a little beginning. This is the general opinion of cats who just meet ThunderClan's medicine cat apprentice; she looks more like a warrior than a healer, and it's definitely worth thinking for a bit before you try messing with her. Cindernight isn't actually a small cat – she looks like she is because of her build and demeanour, but in reality she is quite average in size.
small legs and broad shoulders create a sort of solid, blocky appearance, which is largely responsible for the illusion of decreased size in this cat. But place her beside the more immense members of her Clan and it becomes apparent that Cindernight is in-fact quite modest in stature; instead, her compact form gives her a body that is strong without being bulky. Moons of training have lent agility and competence to her small paws, but Cindernight has not put these skills to work for seasons. Her once-rough paws have gentled somewhat thanks to moons of a medicine cat apprentice's life, but make no mistake. Cindernight is not a cat to be trifled with.
Looking at this She-cat's pelt, it is easy to identify the source of her name. Cindernight's fur is short and thick, and though it looks as though it should have been white, thick, dark cream stripes march from her nose straight to the tip of her tail. From a distance her stripes and undercoat blend together to make her appear nothing more than stripy cream in colour, but up close, her fur is fascinating. Thin lines of white peek up from in-between his creamy stripes, gradually fading into pure cream on her tail and completely taking over on her muzzle and face. Cindernight's eyes are small, olive-shaped, and icey blue in colour. They are most often impatient and flinty, but behind them is genuine concern for her Clan and mentor.
Personality :.
Impatient, Competent, Direct, Peevish, Intelligent, Determined, Decisive, Vehement, Terse, Critical, Stubborn, Honest, Caring
Ah, Cindernight, medicine cat apprentice of ThunderClan, healer apprentice of the sick, deliverer apprentice of new lives. One would expect her to be a gentle, caring cat, but sadly that is not the case. Cindernight is attentive to her patients, and she does her job well, but that doesn't make her a sweet cat. She is every bit as stubborn and irritable now as she was when she was a kit, which, in case you were wondering, was quite a bit. Quick to think and quick to act, she has her own ideas about how things should be done, and by StarClan, she will do them that way if she wants to. Cindernight is quite possibly the most headstrong, obstinate cat under the sun, which means she isn't always the most easy she-cat to get along with. But on the other hand, at least kits and apprentices are too intimidated to talk back to her, which does make her job easier.
When it comes to her job, Cindernight is all business. She takes care of her Clanmates; in fact, she tends to go beyond the medicine cat's typical call of duty. In her eyes, any injured cat in need of help is under her protection, and StarClan help any cat who tries to further injure them if she is around. However, conversely, once she has a wound under control it is commonplace for Cindernight to thoroughly berate her patients for going and getting themselves injured. This doesn't mean she's against fighting; she's just a believer in clawing the enemy's pelt off, and keeping your own intact.
Cindernight is never truly off the job, since a medicine cat apprentice has things to do even when no fighting is going on, but when she isn't directly treating another Clanmate, she is at least a little more mellow. If by mellow one means ornery and long-suffering, but it's a step up from having her chew you out for having the audacity to get your own fur torn. Deep inside, Cindernight is a loyal, sweet cat. Really, she is! She may be short-tempered, hard-headed, insufferable, slightly frightening, hard to please – actually, I should probably stop there and quit while I'm ahead. But despite all the more unsavoury aspects of her personality, Cindernight isn't a bad cat. She can seem blunt and pithy at times, but really she's just honest, and she wants to make sure that her Clanmates understand what she's saying. And when it comes down to it, there is truly no better cat in the Clan to have at your back than her.
History :.
Exactly 10 moons ago, Cindernight's life began normally enough. She was born to two ordinary ThunderClan parents with no obvious skills that set them apart from the rest of the crowd. The only reason that her father, Sage, was notable in any way was because he was not ThunderClan-born. Sage had joined the Clan six moons previously from her birth Clan, RiverClan, because he didn't want Clan boundaries to separate him from his mate. The two cats loved each other very much, and they were devoted parents. Though taking care of their kit was hard work, they were happy with their new family, and they lived contentedly for the first two moons of Cinndernight's life.
Unfortunately, after only that short period of time, a terrible fire swept through ThunderClan's camp. Despite her RiverClan origins, Sage proved his loyalty to his mate's Clan by staying behind to help their aging leader, Hollystar, make it out safely. Neither cat was ever seen again. What was worse, though Stormcloud and kit made it out of the flames, three of her brood succumbed to smoke inhalation and perished shortly after.
After the fire that ravaged ThunderClan's camp and Clan, there was nothing left to do but rebuild. Hollystar's deputy, Deerfoot, took over with her death, choosing Thornclaw as his deputy and focusing on leading his Clan through the brief period of hardship that the flames brought them. Fortunately it was late newleaf, and the forest grew back quickly. If only the same could be said for Cinderkit's family. With no siblings or father, she was raised alone by Stormcloud, who had become determined to see her only kit safely to warriorhood.
Though the first two moons of her life had been nurturing and cheerful, the later moons of her kithood were markedly different. Stormcloud became rather fierce about protecting and raising her kit, and by the time she was six moons old, she had learned to take care of herself, only child or not. Her mentor was an older warrior who had been serving ThunderClan for seasons before she was born. She wasn't a devoted follower of the Warrior Code, but she was loyal to her Clan, and she knew how to hunt and fight. She couldn't have asked for a better mentor to teach her the tricks of the trade, and he had never had a more promising apprentice.
Cinderpaw may have been a somewhat testy young she-cat, but her atitude for fighting was very nearly prodigious. She quickly surpassed the skill of even older apprentices, and was made a warrior shortly after her tenth moon. Her skills were put to the test during the following seasons, during which ThunderClan had many battles with WindClan over accusations of prey-stealing. The war that had started during her kithood and continued throughout her apprenticeship was now her's to fight, and the newly-named Cindernight cut down many a WindClan warrior in ThunderClan's name.
Cindernight was to be ThunderClan's next medicine cat apprentice.
Every cat was surprised to learn of Russet-thorn's choice, the she-cat in question no less than anyone else. Cindernight, ThunderClan's most promising fighter, the cat who might have made deputy given another few seasons, treating the Clan's sick and injured cats from inside a herb-filled den? It hardly seemed likely. But StarClan had spoken, and even Cindernight had to accept the path that had been laid down for her. The she-cat stepped back from the battle field in order to pursue training as a medicine cat.
WindClan was understandably curious (and relieved) at the absence of the cream coloured fury, but the war between the two Clans continued regardless. And two moons later, when ThunderClan was beset on their other border by attacks from ShadowClan, her budding skills as a medicine-cat were sorely needed. Russet-thorn and Cindernight were hard-pressed to stem the flow of injuries and infection that spread through the Clan like wildfire. Still, had her mentor not forced her to remain in camp to rest when not treating patients, then she would have gone to the front lines to help her Clanmates with the onslaught of foreign fighters.
Fortunately ShadowClan's attacks had died with Thornstar, and the next leader in line, Dovestar, had succeeded in ceasing the war with WindClan before an onset of greencough drove her to flee the Clan. Despite the relative peace of the following seasons, Lionstar, who had been Dovestar's deputy when she left, managed to blow through all of his lives in only six seasons. Cindernight currently serves ThunderClan under Whitestar, and wonders how long this particular leader will last.

Deep in the forest that bordered a large, cool lake, morning dawned quietly. Light took a while to filter between the thickly-woven branches of ThunderClan's territory and stream into the stony hollow where they made their camp, so by habit the forest-dwelling Clan started their day later than some others. The season was early leaf-fall, but some of the night's chill had started to abate by the time activity in the camp started in earnest. Of course the dawn patrol were the first to leave camp, but soon after warriors emerged from their nests to rouse sleepy apprentices, gathering them for a day of training. The lucky few who had no apprentices to train or patrols to attend were allowed to sleep just a little longer; there would be birds and squirrels aplenty no mater how late it got, so they could enjoy their respite while it lasted.
Come leaf-bare, there would be little rest for any cat.
Through force of habit, Cindernight was one of the first to rouse, although her schedule was considerably more comfortable than most other cats'. Contrary to popular belief, being a medicine cat apprentice didn't mean that you had free time all day long, unless some cat was bleeding all over your den. It just meant that you had a little more freedom to choose what you did and when.
Arching her back in a long, limbering stretch, the she-cat clawed the sandy floor of the den and then turned to give her milky cream coat a quick once-over. She hadn't had to sleep in the warrior's den for over 1 moon, so following her brief wash, Cindernight padded out of her den and set her paws on a path that would take her around a good portion of the territory. A brisk morning walk served to clear her mind and limber her muscles, and was a good way to find herbs besides. There was every reason to continue the habit, and not a single reason to stop.
Although even if some cat had objected, she would have likely continued to do it anyway.
Cindernight kept her wits about her as she ventured out of camp and started the circuit through the trees. Olive-shaped eyes the colour of the ice in leaf-bare flicked back and forth, alert with a warrior's intensity. a Moon of rest from her former calling had not dulled her instincts, nor the claws that accompanied them. The leaves above her had only just started to change colour, so there were just a few golden-tinged fronds littering the soil under her paws. But snatches of sky could still be seen between the sheltering canopy, blue and perfect now that the sun had returned from it's nightly sleep. It was a beautiful day.
Though some cat would probably find some way to ruin it. Mouse-brained as they were, her Clanmates always seemed to find some way to get themselves injured or otherwise disadvantaged in some way. If she wasn't the medicine cat apprentice, she would have said that she was the only warrior in the Clan with a whit of competence. Though that was probably being a little bit harsh. Maybe.
No, no it wasn't harsh, she decided after barely a moment of thought. Cindernight changed her course abruptly to follow the sounds of moaning and murmuring that were coming from her right, and soon enough, she came upon a scene that was just so typical that she wondered if her Clanmates hadn't planned it. Littleleap and Poppypaw were hobbling in the direction of camp, trying to support a wilting Buzzardbelly between them. The angle at which his front paw was currently twisted told the whole story.
"Great StarClan, how do you manage to find trouble so early in the day? I swear you go off looking to get yourselves mangled, because you certainly do a fair job of that." Stamping over to take a look at the foot, Cindernight loomed over it as only a medicine cat apprentice can and seethed at it as if the power of her glare could make it heal on its own. "Huh. Twisted, maybe even broken. Come on then, you two, get this useless heap of fur back to the den. By my whiskers, you must get up awfully early to plan this kind of stuff, because-"
And she continued like that until they reached camp. The whole. Way. Back.
