Klaus is off recruiting people into his hybrid army all over the place. But back home in Mystic Falls all hell has broken loose. More than when Klaus was there. Stefan is still compelled to have his humanity off and protect Elena and everyone is working hard to keep her safe along with Stefan, as well as trying to fix him up. But vampires do have to eat, and "animal" attacks are still happening. The Founder's Council is trying hard to cover it up but they are having a harder time now that a vast majority of the attacks really do seem to be animal attacks. But not normal ones. People are being mauled in their own homes by wild animals. No one can explain is and poor Carol Lockwood thinks it is Tyler, but she doesn't know he was turned hybrid and never has to turn anymore.

But a new family has moved in and shaken the town with a new club and restaurant called Styx and Bones. The Stavroses aren't a very open family though, considering the fact they aren't human, they have a right to be. Vampire? Werewolf? No. They are something not often heard of by any. A shifter of sorts. Kenzie Stavros is the leader of this family and rather hates vampires with a passion and want's nothing to do with them other than to see them all dead. Klaus in particular. And a little prophecy told her Klaus could be easily killed if he drinks the blood of two vampire doppelgangers. She hates him enough to make sure she can do this and she knows who both the doppelgangers are.

So the gang has their work cut out for them keeping Elena safe from not only Kenzie and the rest of the Stavroses, but from all the other creatures and things out to hurt her. Because more vampires and wolves are coming to Mystic Falls. And with Klaus making more hybrids and at least one witch hopping on in, it's not making their task any easier on them.
