Her body was shaking violently. There was a large warm blob of fur near, but every time the thin kit tried to go to it, the thing pushed her away. She didn't stop trying. It was so cold and dark. Even though her eyes had opened, she could barely make out the form of warmth that was indifferent toward her.
She wanted to escape into the distance light peeking in, but she didn't quite know how. She doubted she could run that far without stumbling anyway. Besides, despite the usual behavior of the large creature that occasionally let her fill her belly with the warm liquid, that particular creature never let the small kit go very far.
SHE WAS ALONE.
An eerie fog was settled over the grass covered hill. There was a few lone trees. To her left and right there was a more dense clustering of the trees. She knew somewhere beyond there were the clans. She didn't fancy going near them. She padded slowly across the hill. There was no need to hurry. A bird fluttered past her. Unfortunately, it was too high for her to reach. Even though she could be quite agile, her body had limits.
Her green eyes settled on her favorite barn. She longed for its coziness after her recent trip to places farther away. She shivered as a sharp gust of wind pierces her fur and skin. She still hesitated. She stared at the barn's worn red walls. Suddenly, she felt like she was being watched. She turned around. She narrowed her eyes. A cat whose gender could not be determined from the distance was staring her down. She glared back at the stranger. He was so far away she couldn't even make out the color or design of his pelt. She assumed it was the same for him.
After a moment of the two cats staring each other down, the mysterious one turned and slunk away. She growled slightly when the cat seemed headed for the barn. She huffed in annoyance when her belly rumbled. She would have to deal with the stranger later. She scanned the area before she realized there would be no spotting of prey through the unnervingly thick mist. She scented like she should've in the first place. She found the scent of a she-cat. That must've been the creepy stranger that was staring at her from a distance. That unknown cat smelled pretty young, but she didn't dwell on it. That cat didn't matter. All that mattered right now was prey.
There was the faint scent of fox, nothing to worry about. She finally pulled out the delightful scent of rabbit. It smelled very close. She followed the direction it came from, moving as quietly as possible. She had to catch this. If she did, she wouldn't be hungry for a while. Even in Green-leaf prey was hard to catch for her. What with having to avoid foxes, badgers, rogues, and clan cats all the time. She couldn't venture too far in the forest in case clan cats scented her. Even if they just caught her scent from passing by and didn't see her, she feared they might try to find her. They could make extra patrols, too. She didn't know these clans or these cats. Who knows what they would do?
Brown fur was barely visible through the fog. She focused her sight. She crouched down and began to stalk toward it. The thing hardly moved. Once she got closer, it was clear the rabbit was nibbling on grass. She scowled. Her expression came because there was a wound on the rabbit's side, as if something already attacked it. What kind of creature would bite or claw a rabbit, but couldn't make the kill? The strangeness of the situation puzzled her deeply. She shrugged. The fast hopping rabbit might be slowed by its injury, making it easier to catch. She smiled slightly.
With a few bounds of semi-long legs controlled by a fairly lithe body. She had missed the taste of blood. It felt like she hadn't sunk her teeth into a good piece of prey for a while. She lied down to eat the morsel. She purred, for the flesh of rabbit had an exceptional taste. She groomed a little once she was finished. She stood up in an abrupt way. Now to deal with the other problem. She raced down the hill rather clumsily. She slowed to stop in front of the barn. The scent of the strange she-cat was overwhelming. She gritted her teeth.
CONFRONTATION MIGHT BE IMMINENT.
Holly slipped through the large, slightly ajar barn door. She moved carefully as to not get any splinters in her skin. She peers into the corners of the barn, hoping to spot the stranger before the black-furred she-cat found the other she-cat's claws sinking into her. Holly tried to keep a clear mind yet make sure she had a battle-ready form when she felt the presence of another feline in close proximity.
"Who are you?" she growled at the stranger.
She took a step forward with herself drawn up to look threatening. Her fur was bristled now as she stared into shocking blue eyes of the other she-cat. The loner didn't like others in HER barn, especially nasty, territorial rogues. That may sound strange, since she felt like she owned that barn. It's not all that hard to understand that she doesn't mind if they keep to themselves and don't attack her, threaten her constantly, or hoard all the mice that reside in her beloved barn.
