Prologue
“Are you sure that we should be here?” A lithe tortoiseshell she-cat wondered while following a blue-gray she-cat into a forest. “This is Dark Forest, after all. If they find us-“ The blue-gray cat cut her off. “Even they must know the prophecy. I know that they aren’t exactly friendly, but what choice do we have, Spottedleaf?” Spottedleaf flicked her tail but didn’t answer. Any cat could tell she was nervous. The prophecy was worse then any other, and it could either mean impending greatness or total annihilation of the world as the Clans knew it. The words rang in her ears as they padded on; Six cats will come. One born in ThunderClan, one born in RiverClan, one born in WinClan, one in ShadowClan, even one in BloodClan and a kittypet. All of them shall possess great power, but beware-even the most powerful bonds can be severed by betrayal. She shuddered and watched as the she-cat walked up to a dark brown tabby. The tabby’s ears were perked up and his stony expression was not enough to mask his true feeling;
Fear. He was afraid of something. The tabby hissed something, low and cold, to the blue-gray cat. She unsheathed her claws and yowled something at him. His ears were now pulled flat against his head and his feeling was evident as he cringed. “Fine. Come with me.” He muttered, keeping his head low to hide the fear that now glinted in his usually stony amber eyes. The blue-gray she-cat walked on. The tortoiseshell checked to make sure the tabby was not listening and whispered “What did you say, Bluestar?” Bluestar flicked her tail and replied “I told Tigerstar that unless he wanted to feel the claws of his leader he would lead me through here.” Spottedleafs’ brow knitted in concern for the large tabby. Even if he was evil, if even he was afraid of something, it would be bad. She nervously padded on through the Dark Forest when Bluestar flicked her tail as a signal for her to stop walking. “W-we are here. I-I’ll get Master.” The tabby murmured, keeping his head low as he walked away. Bluestars’ eyes were wide. “He is afraid.” She hissed, watching as he stalked off. Tigerstar came back with a golden she-cat. Her movements were graceful, as was her body, but she had a glint of evil in her green eyes.
“Good. They are here. Now, Kittypet, you know what to do.” Bluestar stared at her in shock and tensed for his anger. When he was alive, he would claw anyone who called him that into shreds. But now, Tigerstar dipped his head and muttered “Yes, Lionclaw. I-I shall leave.” Lionclaw stood directly in front of him when he tried to leave. “Oh, no you don’t, Kittypet. I thought you knew what to do. Did I tell you specifically to act like the coward you are?” He shook his broad head in denial. “Then stay right here and bow to me. Like you mean it.” Tigerstar obediently dropped to a low bow and she nodded in satisfaction. “Good boy. Now you may leave.” He left. “We must see what the prophecy is about, understood?” Bluestar opened her mouth to protest but Lionclaw cut her off. “Good. Now, on with our plan.” She tossed her golden head back and laughed, a chilling sound that would soon shake the very world to its roots…
