The river crept along slowly along it's predetermined course, set in stone by the very stone it crept upon. Leaf bare brought ice to CardinalClan's territory, and the river welcomed the ice on its surface. Chunks floated downstream, as some was completely frozen over.
The part the black tom cat sat above now, was completely frozen, although he could see the water still navigating below, and further down the ice broke up. He looked up, feeling something on his pelt, and saw white teardrops from the sky, decensing down towards him. And with every tiny drop his pelt got colder, and damper.
"Curse leaf bare." he mumbled, standing up to shake his pelt free of the snow, although he knew it would continue to collect soon enough after he had rid himself of it.
You shouldn't curse my cousin." the voice rang out in his head, as clearly as if somebody had spoken directly to him. "You're not cousins. This is your enemy, isn't it? I know it is. Don't fool me." Silentstar said, aiming his retort at the sun hidden far behind the dense, grey clouds.
My cousin freezes the ice, and brings cold. Yet I bring warmth. Just because you like warmth, doesn't mean cold is essential. the voice came, in a harsher tone. "No cat needs ice. We need fish." The black tom growled, standing up from where he sat, and jumping down below onto the frozen river.
The thin sheet of ice surprisingly held his weight, and with unsheathed claws, and started scratching at it. With no breaking point in sight, he growled again, walking over to where the open water was, and with a rapid motion of his paw after waiting a few moments, a fish appeared, thrown across the river by the cat.
"That is what we need." he said, taking the fish in his mouth and leaping back onto the rock. He sat down, snow already clinging to the rock beneath him, and started to eat. The fish tasted cold, and frozen.

Forsakenkit's pelt was laid down because of the snow that began to fall. She hated the cold. The heat was so much better. She hated shivering as she walked the clans. She wished she could nuzzle against another and keep herself warm.
That just wouldn't do, though. Not going to happen with young Forsakenkit. She would rather die than rely on another to keep her alive. That happened once. And she was left to die. She hissed softly as her paws trudged through the barely one inch thick of snow.
She wasn't a very small kit, being five months old and all. Soon, she would be an apprentice. She was double the size of most kits that were in the clan when she was brought there. Her whole body showed promise. She wasn't just a little kit of CardinalClan. She was almost a apprentice, and she would be taught the ways of a warrior. Not that she wanted to be a warrior. It would only be being able to do whatever she had been doing since she came to the clans. No one asked her to go back to the camp for a while. No one dared.
She moved closer to the river, sitting down. Her eyes looked up to the sun, the only resource of warmth. It was hidden behind a cloud. She wished she could stop this.. This cold. She wished she was the sun that could melt all of this snow. But no, it had to hide behind a cloud. She rolled her eyes.
Forsakenkit noticed the leader who was a good five feet away from her, his back to her. She was steady and able to keep herself on her feet, which was probably why she had gone unnoticed. Like it mattered.
All she wanted was it to be warm. Was that too much to ask?

The black tom cat laid down once again, feeling the cold aganist his pelt, and about the time he laid down, he pricked his ears. Something was moving. It was coming closer, and it stopped about fove feet from him. From scent alone, he identified the cat. Forsakenkit. He hoped he hadn't mis-identified however, with the snow and all, as his smile grew.
She would be an apprentice soon enough, and early training was never a bad thing. he contemplated his options, while he thought about what he should do. Attack her first, or wait? He deicded to let the kit decide.
"Almost an apprentice, eh?" Silentstar spoke in a smooth voice, as he gazed out on the river. I don't see why you aren't more cautious approaching a strange cat in the snow. I could after all be your downfall." he gave a small laugh.
"So go back and start over. Pretend I'm a RussetClan cat. Sagestar for that matter! Ah that puny runt of a leader. I expect more our of my apprentices than he does his." he practically growled the last sentence referring to Sagestar. He hated that cat.
He waited for Forsakenkit to attack him, tensing his muscles for the defense, or in his case, offense. If this kit couldn't fight him off they wouldn't last to be a warrior. And only a moon from apprentice, if they couldn't fight him off now, they wouldn't need to hunt for this kit anymore. He would go easy on her for a first time, but she better not be expecting this as a warrior.

Forsakenkit blinked as he spoke, sitting up. Her whole body was cold, but she knew that cats could attack in the cold, too. Her right ear twitched, and the side of her face that wasn't broken narrowed. She stood, glancing at him.
"You aren't a strange cat to me, you know." Forsakenkit said, crouching down. She didn't plan on attacking him then and there, but she wanted him to think that. Her tail slashed at the air behind her. The cold was unbearable now that she wasn't snuggling into the snow.
She was ignoring it now, though. It didn't matter worth a lick if a leader like himself wanted to fight her. Well, whatever he wanted to do. He probably thought that he could beat her within a second. Which was true because of his size and her without any training.
"You're Silentstar, leader of CardinalClan. Our clan. I know exactly what I'm doing, even without training. I know this clan, but I don't know how to fight very well. Yet. I'll learn." And when I do, she thought. When I do, I will be the downfall of all cats. She smirked, staring at him blankly.
"So what do you want me to do? Come at you?" She stood now, nearing him. She balanced carefully on her large paws as she kept her eyes on him.
Forsakenkit knew exactly how and where she was going to come at him. It was a easy spot, actually. He would expect it, though. She eyed the left so it looked like that was exactly where she was going to strike.

The black tom still gazed over the river, listening to the sounds behind him. He heard a slight breeze, and shuffling on pawsteps. Good good. Getting into position. he thought.
Then a familiar voice reached out to him. Don't under estimate this cat... it said calmly. Just like it. Calm with everything. A low growl rang in his throat, and he stopped it as Forsakenkit spoke.
"So what do you want me to do? Come at you?" the young kits voice asked. He gave a small laugh. No. Not anymore at least. The element of surprise was key in a game of war. First lesson of her apprenticeship. He listened for a few seconds. No pawsteps. She wasn't going to attack him first.
"First lesson," Silentstar said, getting up and shaking the snow off his pelt. "Never hesitate to attack." he said, in a mew so much like a growl he wasn't expecting it himself.
Spinning around, he lunged at Forsakenkit, stopping right before he bowled into her. He sheathed his claws, and lightly slung one across her face. "Yes you insolent thing. I want you to come at me. Now that I'm expecting it..." he said, taking a couple pawsteps back, now facing her.
He got into a low stance, waiting for her to make the first move. "Let's keep this a fair fight, he said with a laugh. "Claws unsheathed." he smirked. He wouldn't hurt the kit. But he hoped she at least scored some marks on him. Might as well prove her worth in the Clan.

Forsakenkit was taken aback when he clawed her, glaring at him. She hated when another acted like they were larger than her. She then took a few steps back. The sheathed paw was long forgotten.
Instead of readying her attack, she faked him out. Her eyes darted from side to side as her claws unsheathed. The first lesson would be the first that she was going to learn. She began to crouch, then took a few more steps back. She was then turning around and disappearing in the snow.
Silence. There was nothing except the small falling of snow now. There were a couple pawsteps heard, but nothing major. While he was caught off guard, from his left side sprang a small kit, a light hiss as she sprang and clawed at his side.
Her unsheathed claws were longer than most kits, but they weren't really large. They were about half the size of his. Her claw reached against his shoulder and clawed into it slightly, then bit down. She yanked back and moved into a different stance.
Her eyes were glittering. The taste of blood was in her mouth. She was trying to ignore it, but at the same time, it didn't matter. She took another step, but kept watching him. She jumped and ran under his stomach, raking her claw lightly across his stomach, then rolling out so he couldn't squash her.
The whole fight was uncoordinated, and not as planned out as his own. But at the same time, she did have potential. More than most kits.
"Hows that?"

Amber eyes glittered as he saw the kit bound away into the snow. He laughed a little as he saw tiny brown patches make their way to his left side. The kit was silent however. That would be good. He turned away to mimic Sagestar. That would be a classic Sagestar move, focusing attention on the front.
Silentstar, why are your claws unsheathed? a voice came fom above, and he rolled his eyes. He had forgotten, and after all, he had said claws unsheathed. The kit wouldn't mind.
As he was thinking, just as he expected, the kit burst out from the left. A smile came to his face as she clawed him on the shoulder and used her teeth to bite down. All I need to do is flick you off my shoulder and you're in the river. he noted in his mind as he pretended to struggle to get her off. Silly kits with these kit games.
He got into a lower stance, as she rolled under him, clawing his belly lightly. If she had been actually trying, it might have made him lose a life. He noted to actually defend himself next time, as she bounded away. "How was that?" she asked.
The black tom nodded. "Good, but I can tell you're an untrained apprentice already. I could of had you in the river in the first attack if I didn't want to see what you had after that. I thought kits were supposed to be fast?" he remarked. But he wasn't going to let her go on the offense this time.
Sitting down slightly, he let her think he was done thinking, as he licked the blood off his shoulder, and let the snow absorb the blood on his stomach. Then as he stood up, shaking the annoying white off his pelt, he smiled. "Your attack brings up another lesson, quite an important one." he said. "Always expect a counterattack, and if they don't move first, take them at their weakest moment. Forget if he's bleeding to death prayng in the name of StarClan, curse that name, you should rip his throat out!" he growled, as he got into a lower stance.
Maybe that had gone too far? Oh well. His black frame outlined aganist the white snow, he lunged once again at Forsakenkit. But of course classic Sagestar would be to attack her from the front. He wasn't a stupid cat. About two feet away from her, he sprang up, making sure she wouldn't claw him again on the underside, he landed again behind her. Spinning around, he slammed his sheathed paw into her.
Afterwards, he would usually go under the cat, but that would take another kit at this point to do such a thing. So he aimed for just below the right shoulder, almost the right front leg, and slammed another sheathed paw there. All this was done in a matter of seconds, as he stood there, awaiting her move. She needed to learn close combat, not just charge, attack, charge, attack.
That never happended on the battlefield. Of course, cats didn't sheath their claws out of courtesy on the battlefield did they?

Forsakenkit jumped back when he lunged, taking a scratch at her side. She growled. She hated getting beaten. Even though this was a leader, she didn't like it. She was a kit, and she could tell he was barely trying, which made her even more annoyed.
But at the same time she didn't want him to try. Or she would die. She wasn't stupid and naive that she thought that Silentstar was stupid. She knew that Silentstar could take her out within seconds since she was an apprentice. The thought struck something in her mind.
Not for long. Forsakenkit thought. Her claws unsheathed as she clawed at his side, dodging any former attacks. She lunged again, her teeth barely trying to meet his neck. She snarled softly, competitively. She was ready to take on any attacks that he threw at her. She wanted to be ready for anything. Forsakenkit knew that one day she would be a warrior and she would take on other leaders. She wanted to know how they thought.
One day I will take on all the leaders single pawed. I will defeat them. Silentstar is teaching me how right now! Forsakenkit almost purred at the thought. She readied for the next attack that he would force upon her. Whatever he threw at her, she had to be ready. That was something that she always had to think about; be ready if a warrior or a leader or anyone attacks you. Be prepared to counter attack.

Silentstar paused a second, as the kit came out him, and saw tiny claws glinting with snow. They barely broke his skin since they were so small, and he laughed a little. This kit did have some power in them. Just another reason why CardinalClan would rule. This kit would know how to take on a senior warrior before she was even apprenticed!
But now, he didn't have time for moves other leaders would do. He would show her the way the CardinalClan leader fought, and the way she would be expected to. She had gotten off to a good start anyway. He got ready to lunge, but saw she was coming instead, his body close to the ground, he saw she was aiming for his neck.
He raised his head enough to the kit couldn't bite down, and while she was reaching up to try and meet his neck, he didn't waste any time. Kicking with his rear legs to give him some power, he moved his front paws up under the kits belly, and thrusting her up with the backs of his paws.
Not giving her time to react, he jumped up closer to her, and pushed her again, to the edge of the cliff overlooking to frozen river. But no, this wasn't another leader. A cowardly leader who was more concerned about 'safety' than winning the battle. This was Silentstar, and this kit needed to learn the way the Clan and their leader fought. So he would pretend, just for a minute, this kit could actually kill him.
So again, he lunged, threatning to push the kit over the ledge, he made sure he wouldn't knock her over, and jumped over her again with precision. Barely clearing her, he fell for a couple feet before kicking again, and hitting the cliffs edge to propel him forward, sending him sliding along the rivers glassy surface, dispersing the little snow that had begun to cling.
His gamble had paid off. The only aversion he had to jumping here was the ice might crack, and it didn't. A smile came to his lips. "Do whatever it takes to pin me down, kit! I'll lower my standards though, so don't be expecting this when it comes to your apprentice battle with me!" he yowled up to where the brown and white kit was standing on the cliff. He wondered if she ws a real CardinalClan cat, and would leave her claws unsheathed, or if she didn't want to drown them both.

{ I'm not given very easy things to do. I mean, I'm a kit in this thing. I can't be all MUAHAH. I BITE YOU, I KEEL. EHEEHEHEHE. Cut me some slack. xDDDDDDD }
She let out a quiet snarl as he moved towards her and flung her towards the cliff. Near it was water, and if she was to go too far to the left it would result in the death of her or him - or both of them. She guessed he could swim, and she knew how as long as she wasn't being held back. Forsakenkit's tail lashed as she clawed at the ground slowly. She then sat there for a moment. She looked up at the sky and back to him. She was taking too long: This she knew. But this cat had to learn some kind of patience.
Then out of no where, she looked to the right. Then the left. Then she looked straight at him, a glint of darkness running through her eyes. She then lunged at him from the right, pushing him with all her strength away from the cliff. He barely moved, but it was enough for her.
Since she was small enough, she jumped over his side, clawing at his side as she jumped and propelling herself from his backbone to his belly. She clung to hit. Her short claws barely hit his fur, and it wasn't enough to make him pained, but it was still hitting him.
She clawed at the most sensitive part of his belly, easily falling off has he shook her. She then bit at his belly and pressed further to the left, shaking him and her so much that they almost fell over. Almost. Her claws showed no intent of letting go. They were buried into his stomach fur and her teeth were buried into his lower neck.
