Rosepaw listened to the backup, unknowing as to what to reply with. Was that a compliment? She had never caught much prey before, so she wasn't a total loser.
The vole had almost gotten away from her. If the vole had been seconds faster, it would have scuttled away from her grasp and she wouldn't have even gotten a compliment.
She opened her mouth to scent for any more prey, to impress her mentor, mainly. But there was none that she could muster up, except for the slight thought of birds in the sky.
Without thinking, she looked up into the blue sky quietly.
Rosepaw stared into the sky at the large bird. It did not scare her at the slightest bit. In fact, she didn't really care. As long as it did not come down and swipe at her prey, she was fine with it.
Had any other cats in the clan ever killed a large bird, like an eagle, and eaten it? Would it taste good? The thought made her actually want it to come down and attack them, so she could see if she could fight it off.
She was a good enough hunter to get it away from her and her mentor. Why should she care, though? Why did it even matter if her mentor lived or not? She did need him, a little bit, but she could always be assigned another mentor.
She realized that he was slightly leaning nearer to her, almost protectively. She wanted to prickle her fur and say that she didn't need protecting, especcially from another cat in the clan.
And not even from a stupid bird! That bird wouldn't dare come into CardinalClan's territory. It would think twice before entering. She stared darkly at the other warrior while his back was turned.
Maybe she did in fact need him. He was the only one who had taken time to speak to her. But I guess that he had to; he was her mentor. If he didn't, he would be scolded by the leader of the clan. She sighed quietly.
She looked back over to the water. A fish moved around in it. She knew better than to interrupt the water's tranquility, to go near and take the fish's life.
The fish would die sooner or later by another cat taking it's life. Staining the waterfall with blood that would no longer be pure blue again. She had killed a few fish before, but never selflessly. Only if she or the clan needed it.
She rarely killed for the clan. She only killed for herself; she hadn't any warrior training skills, so she guessed if they ever had a fight with another clan that she would end up not going.
Rosepaw licked her side, smoothing down the edges of her fur. She continued to groom herself until she saw her mentor move closer to the water. She acted like she wasn't watching, her tongue continuing to rasp against her wet, clean fur.
He had seen the fish just as she had, but she had seen it first. She smirked lightly. She had seen a little bit of prey in the water before he had. Well,, it was the water.
The water was a sixth sense to her. It was all around perfect. Anyone who didn't think so.. She didn't even know. Did Wildstriker think that? Obviously if he was killing another peice of prey he didn't. She didn't want to interrupt, she only watched, visibly amused.
She hid her amusement. She saw the water's flow quicken, the fish barely noticing Wildstriker was hunting it for its life, it's meat.
