Silentstar nodded, in reguards to the sun, looking up at her. Beautiful too. he thought, turning back to Rootpaw. She seemed a bit hesitant about training, slowly thinking over each descision.
It wasn't wrong to think over training however, Silentstar thought. It would be hot be hey, what if there was to be a battle in this weather? He couldn't stand to have weak cats... he was pondering the thought that entered his mind as Rootpaw spoke.
He nodded at her words, standing up, and shaking his pelt a little to get the rain off it. Rootpaw started to make her way down, as Silentstar leapt down from the rocks, and followed her, overtaking her part way through their walk.
He led her to the forest part of the territory, where he was sure things would be at least a little more dry. Tall trees gave up the rain they had been withholding as they walked through the forest, and he stopped below a tall oak tree.
"I suppose fighting practice would be good, and maybe if you wanted to we could do some hunting, after all I'm sure you haven't ate in a while, but I caught a fish earlier." he said, pondering what to do. He hadn't mentored an apprentice in a long time.
Of course he didn't want to admit that, what kind of a leader would he be then. At that point a voice sounded in his mind. It's fighting practice... only practice. A low growl sounded in his throat. Much more than that. Practice is what we do in battles! he yowled back to the intruding voice in his head. Whatever, do what you want. they said, as he nodded. He would do just that.
But what to do first? He supposed he would let the apprentice figure that out for themself. His tail gave a lash, remembering the voice. He would make sure this apprentice was ready for the real world. The world of fighting. The world of only the strongest survive. She seemed brave enough to take on the world, he was sure she could.
"Well, go ahead. Attack me. he said, half bored. He realized if he just stood there he might look stupid. He put pressure on his back paws ready for an attack. He wasn't going to teach her stupid dodging moves now was he?

Rootpaw watched without emotion as Silentstar overtook her. Her large orange and white paws hit the ground in a rhythmic motion. Her left front paw went forward first with her left back paw. Then the right front paw went up and hit the solid ground with her right back paw. It repeated like this as she moved steadily behind her leader and mentor for the day. Rootpaw's tail was lifted slightly in the air, swinging lazily. She set her light brown eyes on the trees ahead.
She let the sound of the crunching leaves under paw fill her ears. It was drier here, she noticed. The leaves rustled with a slight breeze. It was also cooler. Now the sun was shining full force with barely any clouds left. She moved through the trees easily with her well-built form. Her ears were alert for any signs of danger. She was delighted as the breeze ruffled her orange, black, and white fur. She stopped as Silentstar did. She lifted her small head and peered up at the oak tree.
Her pelt had collected droplets off water. She decided to pretty much ignore them. She simply nodded as he spoke. She wasn't sure how to respond. It didn't need a response anyway. She licks her muzzle at the prospect of eating fish. She pushed her hunger down. Not right now. I can wait. I'm not that hungry. she thought. Her ear twitched as she thought she heard him growl. She watched as his tail lashed. She wondered if she should be nervous. The notion of being nervous almost made her laugh. She held it in so she wouldn't seem idiotic.
The apprentice respected her leader's authority and strength, but she wasn't afraid. She tensed, readying for his attack. She heard dodging was important. However, she wasn't a coward. Her paws flinched as she nearly unsheathed her claws when she remembered it was just practice. Her tail flicked to the side. Her muscles got ready for action. She just about relaxed with surprise when the words came tumbling out of Silentstar's muzzle. 'What? Oh. Well...' Actually unsure what to do she dashed forward and jumped at him. Even if I don't start out right, I can make up for it,' she thought quickly without faltering.
