Rainy Day...?

Rainpelt lifted her eyes momentarily and saw Blazingstreak approaching her across the clearing. She sat back on her haunches and allowed him to speak. He seemed strange as before, and Rainpelt couldn't quite figure out what was bothering him. The question of asking him what what on his mind popped into her head yet again, and this time she had no answer. The medicine cat seemed to need comforting, not that he was aking for it of course. He was clearly out of sorts, so Rainpelt decided at last that she would try to see if there was something up that he could share.

She gently placed all the herbs at his paws, including the ones he had missed, and raised her head to meet his. She licked his head a few times, in slow comforting strokes, then spoke gently to him,
"No worries Blazingstreak, don't apologize. I picked up the herbs you forgot and brought them back as well. And it's okay, you had enough to carry already so I was just helping you with your load." She smiled meaningfully at Blazingstreak then said in a lowered voice, "If there is something bothering you, you can speak to me. I can keep things secret from the other cats if that's what you want? Just keep it in mind that I'm a friend."

Then she picked up the herbs again and lightly brushed past him, running her tail across his shoulders. She hoped that she didn't sound too intrusive or disrespectful to the medicine cat, she was only trying to help. She padded across the clearing to the medicine den, and stood inside the clearing where she placed the herbs on the ground and sat to wait.

Blazingstreak felt her run her tounge over his head. He felt terrible; not only had he acted in such a strange way towards her, but she was actually comforting him ! He closed his eyes, the rhythmic strokes reminded him of when he was a kit.. too small to have any burdens. Not like now. He stopped himself. He was being ridiculous. He stood up, and followed the warrior into his den. He was grateful for her help, really, he just felt.. well, he wasn't really sure anymore.

He listened vaguely at her offer of telling her what was making him act so obviously agitated and strange. He almost laughed. How could he tell her, when he was feeling this way because he was envious of her skills ? But, that moment was passed. His immature, proposterous feelings were gone. In fact, they had gone as soon as he had had the outburst ! He shook his head, then realized she hadn't even seen the gesture as she was heading into his den.

Feeling that she deserved a better answer, after all she was trying to do for him. He expanded; 'no, really, it's nothing.. not anymore.' He smiled at her, trying to act as if he was fine again, even though he still felt the deep pits of shamefulness. He shrugged it off and hurried after her, determined to sort the herbs himself. He knew the answer probably wouldn't satisfy her, but he didn't feel like discussing the matter anymore. He made another attempt to be more friendly, in the best way he knew how. 'If you'd like, you could help me put a few of these away.. just as there's so many ! I've been a bit lazy with the herb - collecting lately; the rainy weather, you see. He looked - and felt - a bit sheepish, but he flicked his tail, with a determined attitude.

At Blazingstreaks last words Rainpelt felt a rush of gratefulness. She was quite glad that he further asked for her help, as it gave her something to do that helped the Clan, in a different form from tooth and claw. Not that she had any problems with her fighting and hunting skills. Hunting, she really enjoyed and fighting, she had good skills in. But she was pleased that there were other ways to serve her Clan.

Would she ever want to be a medicine cat though? No. She liked helping to collect herbs as it was an interesting thing to do, to sniff out herbs, but she couldn't cope with the actual healing part. She was not cut out for the path of medicine. For starters she had a slim, but well muscled body, perfect for all the physical stuff. But as well as that she liked having the freedom of a warrior: she enjoyed hunting for the Clan; she strived to fight for her Clan; and she thought that one day, she might even want kits.

She stood yet again and bowed slightly to Blazingstreak,
"Yes please, just tell me what to do and it's done!" She thought back to the times she had seen Blazingstreak in the den sorting his herbs. That's it! He usually makes piles first right? Better not just do it incase she was wrong and also she didn't want to look big-headed.
"Blazingstreak, what shall I do first?"
